Be Aware of the Civilian Abuse in Syria
During the civil war in Syria, it was reported by the United Nations that numerous and serious human rights violations happened. The war was reported by the United Nations as that kind of war devoid of compliance to the norms set by the international law, leading to sufferings of civilians that cannot be measured as a result of warring parties.
Most of the abuses on human rights violations were said to be committed by the Syrian government, although according to different human rights organizations and the United Nations, human rights violations can be traced back to the doings of both rebels and the government.
The regime of Assad was said to use chemical weapons like the chlorine gas to the civilians, aside from the torture being conducted and extrajudicial killings. Not only was Assad accused of aerial bombardment and shelling that were not discriminating and were not proportionate, the regime spread terror because of its mass civilian casualties. The Free Syrian Army and other rebel groups were also accused of committing war crimes like the recruitment of children to become soldiers, civilian populated areas being shelled, the use of poison gas, and murder of members of religious minorities and taking hostages.
It is a painful fact that most of us have heard and seen, that in Syria’s 3rd year of conflict, many atrocities are unimaginable, from aerial attacks to civilians, physical assaults and rape on women, and so on, that made news to cover about the situation in Syria.
It is disheartening to know some facts and issues about Syria that we can hear and see on the news, from major part of cities, houses, schools, hospitals and water systems reduced to the ground, and together of which more than 80,000 Syrians were killed and thousands of kids died.
You may not have the chance to look within a Lebanon refugee camp, and so imagine a daunting sight of children’s eyes staring at you with despair, surroundings covered with snow and people living inside boxes and covering themselves with what small pieces of things they can get hold of.
Inside the refugee camp, women will tell you how their homes, lives, careers and practically everything were lost in just seconds. Women telling how they lost their brothers, husbands and sons in this Syrian war, and how they were traumatized because they were being raped. Peace and nothing else are what these women could wish for, leaving behind their careers and their past happy and peaceful lives.
It is a fact that Syria and Iran considered themselves as strategic allies that they have to support each other. According to some sources, Iran has given aid to the Syrian government during the Syrian civil war since 20111, through the Iranian revolutionary guard that increased and strengthened the ability of Syria in dealing with protesters, aside from the riot control equipment that they sent and givng techniques to monitor intelligence.
