Be Aware of the Civilian Abuse in Syria
During the civil war in Syria, it was reported by the United Nations that numerous and serious human rights violations happened. The war was reported by the United Nations as that kind of war devoid of compliance to the norms set by the international law, leading to sufferings of civilians that cannot be measured as a result of warring parties.
Most of the abuses on human rights violations were said to be committed by the Syrian government, although according to different human rights organizations and the United Nations, human rights violations can be traced back to the doings of both rebels and the government.
The regime of Assad was said to use chemical weapons like the chlorine gas to the civilians, aside from the torture being conducted and extrajudicial killings. Not only was Assad accused of aerial bombardment and shelling that were not discriminating and were not proportionate, the regime spread terror because of its mass civilian casualties. The Free Syrian Army and other rebel groups were also accused of committing war crimes like the recruitment of children to become soldiers, civilian populated areas being shelled, the use of poison gas, and murder of members of religious minorities and taking hostages.
It is a painful fact that most of us have heard and seen, that in Syria’s 3rd year of conflict, many atrocities are unimaginable, from aerial attacks to civilians, physical assaults and rape on women, and so on, that made news to cover about the situation in Syria.
